Twelve Hours in London

I love long layovers.

Well, layovers over 4 hours because that means I get to explore an extra city! When booking my flight to South Africa, I made sure to choose the longest layover in London that I could find. Twelve hours- 7:30 am to 7:30 pm… perfect!

Ngo Borders in El Salvador

Ngo Borders’ 15th dental mission trip was to El Cuco, El Salvador. We worked with Dr. John Leland from San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Leland built a home and mobile dental unit in the small town of El Cuco and hosts small mission teams a couple times a year to help the underserved population. Our team traveled from Florida with a crew of 3 dentists and 4 assistants.

Zucchini Noodles with Mussels, Clams & Shrimp

One of the best things about living in Washington, D.C. is being 2 miles away from one of my favorite seafood markets, Captain White’s Seafood City at the Wharf. It’s not summer without fresh seafood from a market I have frequented since I was a child. Lately, I’ve had a bit of a love affair with clams so this is actually the second time I have made this dish in two weeks. If you’re a serious seafood lover, try out this recipe! It’s adapted from my favorite food magazine, Food & Wine. I’ve substituted spaghetti with zucchini noodles, upped the spice factor, added more tomatoes and left some seafood in the shell. Original recipe can be found here.

Now let’s head on over to seafood heaven:

It is SO hard for me not to buy a pound of EVERYTHING at the local seafood market.

Saving the World, One Tooth at a Time

It was in 2006 that as a first year dental student, I had wild dreams of “saving the world, one tooth at a time.” When I first heard of a dental mission opportunity, I didn’t just jump on it… I leaped and it completely changed my life.

Three years later, my dentist siblings and I started a non-profit called N.G.O. Healthcare where we brought N.G.O. Healthcare where there was NO healthcare. (Ngo is our family name and pronounced “No”). Since then, we have completed 14 international missions to Vietnam, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Peru, South Africa, Nicaragua, Jamaica, Antigua, Brazil, Haiti and China.
