Cartagena

Cartagena de Indias is a city in Colombia founded in 1533 on the Caribbean coast of South America. The old, walled city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, reminiscent of an upkept Havana or a quieter New Orleans. The little city is full of romantic Spanish-Colonial architecture with bright colors and flowers, flowers everywhere!

New Zealand

It was 5:00 am on a random Thursday morning as I was making my morning coffee, that Twitter notified me of a $225 USD round-trip flight LAX-AKL on American Airlines.

All fees included.

Los Angeles, California, USA to Auckland, New Zealand. $225. Yes. You read that correctly.

So off we went. Another adventure chosen FOR us, rather than BY us.

Here’s how my husband and I visited both islands in one week:

Cuba Vive

For my birthday this year, my husband surprised me with the best gift: a surprise trip to Cuba!

I had and still have mixed feelings about visiting Cuba. I knew that there would be pretty vintage cars and charming architecture but how was the Communist slave island going to feel once I was there? Well, I had 48 hours in Cuba to find out.

Iceland 4

Western Ring Road

The west coast of Iceland is a different creature than the southern Ring Road. The Snæfellsnes Peninsula is considered by many to be “mini Iceland” due to the variety of terrain. It’s long been a special place, thanks to Jules Verne’s book Journey to the Center of the Earth: where the entryway to the center of our planet is through Snæfellsjökull Volcano on the tip of the peninsula.
